Are you expecting a baby and wondering what you should bring to the hospital? I am a mom of two beautiful baby boys and I will tell you I definitely overpacked the first time around. I want to save the next Mama the trouble and tell you exactly what you will need to bring in your mommy bag.
First of all, I purchased a super cute bag that says “Mommy Bag” on it but you can use any travel bag you already own. But if you are curious, here is the link to the bag and it holds so much!
Ok now on to what you actually need to bring with you to the hospital.
For Mama:
- Cozy pajamas or loungewear. Here is the set I brought.
- Slippers with grip. You don’t want to be walking around hospital floors in your socks.
- Heating pad. I didn’t bring this the first time around and this time it was the first thing I packed. Yes the hospital has them but it took them hours to bring me one so this time around I brought my own and it really helped with my back pain I was having after giving birth.
- Claw clip or hair tie. I went to the hospital the first time around with my hair curled and it quickly turned into a birds nest… I recommend bringing something to pull your hair up.
- Don’t forget your toiletries and beauty products (deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, makeup) I brought a small makeup bag with a few must have products like blush, lip balm and mascara.
- Tummy wrap. If you have a c-section you are given one to wear but I didn’t have c-sections and brought my own because the compression was comforting.
- Underwear.
- Any prescription medications you may need.
- Phone charger.
- I bottle feed using formula so don’t forget to pack whatever you may need if you plan on breastfeeding.
For Daddy:
- Snacks, snacks and more snacks. The hospital doesn’t feed the new dad to be unfortunately.
- Comfy outfit. My husband wore joggers and a long sleeve. He also brought a hoodie because the hospital can be chilly.
- Any prescription medications he may need.
- Underwear.
- Phone charger.
- Toiletries
For Baby:
- Outfit to take pictures in.
- Pajamas. I do overpack for baby because their clothes are so tiny and don’t take up much space. Plus Leo had an accident all over his after five minutes of wearing them so I am happy I brought a few backups.
- Hat/bow
- Swaddle blanket
- Halo swaddle sleep sack (best thing ever). So much easier than trying to figure out how to swaddle with a blanket.
- Bring your own formula if you plan of formula feeding and are picky about the kind they use. I did use what the hospital provided but switched to my own once I got home.
The hospital will provide diapers and wipes so no need to bring your own. They also provide everything you will need to take care of yourself after birth so I didn’t worry about bringing pads, etc.
I hope you found this post helpful! I know how overwhelming it can be, especially if you are a first time mom and not sure what you will need. If you have any questions, just leave me a comment or shoot me a message!
XOXO,
Kimmie
